The International Road Safety Organisation PRI is a worldwide, non-governmental and non-profit organisation. PRI was founded in 1959 to promote cooperation amongst national institutions dealing with road safety. PRI has a consultative status at the United Nations and the European Conference of Ministers of Transport. PRI works in official relations with the European Commission in Brussels and with the World Health Organisation in Geneva and other international and global bodies concerned with the improvement of traffic safety. PRI is an association and knows different membership categories. Membership is open to individuals and organisations as well.

PRI VISION AND STRATEGY

PRI demands zero tolerance for road victims. Every victim is one too many. It is a shared responsibility to stop this world-wide epidemic. The focus is on prevention of fatal and serious injuries. In the opinion of PRI everybody has the basic right on safe mobility. In the current situation this right is not divided equally.
PRI adopts the concept of Vision Zero. Engineering and enforcement are necessary to encourage safe behaviour. Road users do have their own responsibility. Therefore education in the broadest sense of the word is indispensable as well. International cooperation will facilitates the process of sustainable improvement.

PRI MISSION AND KEY TASKS

• People no longer should be killed or injured by traffic accidents. PRI devotes itself to place and to keep road safety high on the political and public agenda and to encourage safe behaviour.

• The key tasks of PRI are raising awareness for road safety, lobbying decision makers, transferring knowledge from its members on education and communication and mobilizing public support

PRI FOCUS AND CORE BUSINESS

• The focus is aimed at vulnerable road users and providing within its activities special emphasis for developing countries and countries in transition.

• Education and communication are core business of PRI. The combination of vision (zero tolerance) and expertise (human factor) provides a unique selling point. By its vision, expertise, global networks and its members worldwide PRI is an influential organisation.
